Jolera prides itself in being an innovative and performance orientated organization.  In addition to delivering value Jolera works closely with its customers challenging the technology norm and building solutions that are worth recognizing. Coupled with our solution designs is a critical service element that shows we care about our work and today we are here to share some of these achievements with you.

Cloud Computing - Jolera Virtualize-I.T.™

The cloud has become a more integral part of I.T. services solutions that organizations can implement as part of their overall technology strategy.  Jolera's Virtualize-I.T.™ private cloud computing service has recently been recognized as a best in class service by the Computer Dealer News (CDN). Jolera's bronze award submission was based on a solution designed for a customer with a theatre of operations spanning Toronto, Hong Kong, Vancouver, Montréal, Winnipeg, Chicago, Scotland and China. In order to develop an I.T. strategy that would service their business global needs and scale to their accelerating growth, Jolera used its Virtualize-I.T. ™ service offering to host their Microsoft Windows Server, Exchange Server, and Groove Server.  Using the hosted model our customer has been given a complete mobile solution where an employee can access email, shared files, and collaborate with co-worker as long as an internet connection is present and regardless of geographical location. In the case of Groove (SharePoint Workspaces 2010), documents could also be worked on offline and synchronized back when network access is available.

Other key cloud services that were part of our customers solution is the Store-I.T.™ backup service and Block-I.T.™ Spam/AV service. Store-I.T.™ runs in the background and reads our customers data hosted on their servers and backs up their predefined selection lists to our offsite redundant backup locations. Block-I.T.™ scrubs incoming email for our customers and delivers clean messages accompanied by a daily email digest that includes a listing of the discarded and potentially dangerous email messages.

Through the combination of our Virtualize-I.T.™, Block-I.T.™, and Store-I.T.™ cloud/managed service offerings Jolera has yet again proven that its best of breed à la carte solution design can be customized to fit any organizational I.T. strategy requirements.

Another great honour bestowed to our growing resume of achievements.  What makes this an even greater accomplishment is that we have been named to the Profit list 4 years in a row!  Being an organically grown organization we have had to manage quality, service experience, and growth all at the same time.  This 4th nomination means a lot; 2010 and 2011 have been largely retooling years for our organization.   We have made heavy investments in new technologies for operations, finance, and marketing to take us to another level.  We want to thank our customers, partners, and great team members for helping us achieve another milestone.

Toronto-based IT consultants Jolera made a very conscious decision a few years back to have environmentally-sound operations permeate though its business.

It did this in both big and small measures: consolidating all servers into a virtualized cloud environment to reduce air conditioning and cooling needs; converting to electronic forms to reduce printing; relocating to a location more central to clients to reduce travel, even issuing staff public transit passes.

On the customer facing side Jolera is providing counsel that not just evangelizes, but also demonstrates green IT benefits, says Alex Shan, CEO.  "It shows them what's possible.  If we can do it for ourselves, it's a pretty good venture of a guess that we can also propose our clients to do the same things."

Shan said that over the past two years, the economy has been pushing frugality from businesses, and what was in 2009 a bigger push in the market for green solutions for the sake of the environment alone has given way to solutions that solve both cost cutting and carbon reductions, for example enterprise virtualization. In addition, Jolera's customers are becoming increasingly interested in virtual desktop solutions, which Shan suggests can extend the average lifespan of a desktop from two to five years out to as much as seven to 10 years, cutting landfill waste.

Plan is a global movement for change, mobilizing millions of people around the world to support social justice for children in developing countries.  Each year, their work impacts the lives of more than 3.5 million families and their children in over 25,000 communities.

A significant portion of their funding comes from child sponsorships.  Each sponsoring family receives a package of information about their sponsored child, the community, and programs.  The package contains pictures of the child and community, artwork done by the child, a refrigerator magnet, etc.  The data to compile the information package is stored in many database sources around the globe.  The process to compile all the required information was very labour intensive and time consuming so Plan Canada asked for Jolera’s help in simplifying and streamlining the process and technologies.

Luckily there is a single piece of information that is consistent within every database world-wide; the Child-ID.

Jolera designed, developed, and implemented a web-based application that allows Plan Canada staff to simply enter the Child-ID.  The application then accesses all of the various databases and collects all pertinent data.  The data is compiled into a standard template and presented to a volunteer who checks the quality and ensures that all content is included.  If there are any issues with the content, the volunteer can reject, change, delete, or resubmit the request.  Rejected content automatically notifies the originator to make modifications or add additional content.

When the volunteer approves the template content, the job is added to the appropriate print queues and the final materials are produced.
The result, for Plan Canada an  additional 10 FTE capacity to allowing staff and volunteers to focus on value-adding activities.  The quality of the materials sent to sponsors and donors is greatly enhanced, adding to an improved experience with the Plan brand.  The time required to produce each package has been substantially reduced.  The workflow associated with approvals for content has been greatly simplified.

Over 6500 high quality, lower cost packages are produced every month using the new solution which represents a 1000% increase in monthly volume.
